There is a new cadre of prominent figures emerging among young Christian conservatives in America, and this page highlights three of them:
Charlie Kirk (25) – Founder of Turning Point USA
Candace Owens (30) – Founder of the Blexit movement, and host of the Candace Owens show on Prager U
Allie Beth Stuckey (27) – Host of “Relatable” show on BlazeTV
Turning Point USA (from their About page:) Turning Point USA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded on June 5, 2012 by Charlie Kirk. The organization’s mission is to identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of freedom, free markets, and limited government. Turning Point has chapters in more than 1300 universities and high schools across the USA, and is now in the process of opening chapters in the UK.
Prager U and BlazeTV are both media sites, with a variety of podcasts by articulate conservative hosts. In addition, Prager U also has an important series of 5-minute videos delivered by dozens of people from academia, politics and media, dealing with a wide variety of topics, approaching them from a conservative perspective.
The Blexit movement was formed to encourage people in the Black and Hispanic communities to cease support for the Democrat party. Its conservative ideology is based in part on the thinking of some of the pioneers of Black Conservatism such as Thomas Sowell, Walter E. Williams and Shelby Steele, as well as younger authors, journalists and academics such as Jason Riley, Star Parker, Larry Elder, and Allen West.
Commentary
In the some of the linked videos below, there is occasionally fairly intense interaction between conservative presenters and listeners during Q&A sessions. While these interactions serve to provide clarity for the differing points of view, it is unclear how effective they are in opening minds to conservative viewpoints which are essentially prohibited from being expressed within most of academia.
What seems clear is that encouragement of the expression of contrary views is a feature exclusive to the conservative movement. In the case of Turning Point USA, it can be seen in the Q&A segments of the videos that those with opposing viewpoints are asked to come to the front of the line. Ordinarily within academia, people or groups that express politically incorrect viewpoints are either prohibited from voicing their thoughts, or subject to discipline if they are expressed.
Questions may also be raised relative to the Biblical support or prohibition for confrontive expression of one’s thoughts. It would seem that in both the Old and New Testaments, those who spoke unpopular words to their culture included prophets and disciples, as well as Jesus Christ. In the case of St. Paul, he occasionally had harsh words for some within the church.
There is always the distinction between form and content, and sometimes “good” content can be expressed in ineffective or even damaging form. In the videos below – from a conservative point of view – two facets need to be addressed. Are the conservative Christians expressing true thoughts? And is the form in which they are expressing them beneficial or detrimental?
